Tex — you are a non-fungible human

Everything you can do in Tex

Tex is a small, private social app. You leave things in real places for whoever passes by to find, you keep a timeline that is yours, and you talk to people with end-to-end encryption.

Open Tex

Gotex — leave something in a real place

Pin a photo, a story, a coupon or a secret to the exact spot you are standing on. Whoever walks by later can find it and open it.

Radar — who and what is close

A live view of the people and the drops around you right now.

Moments — what you are into right now

A short status with a shape: what you are listening to, watching, reading, where you are, or how you feel.

Me — your own timeline

Your photos and your history, in your hands: not a feed someone else sorts for you.

Chats — private, and really private

One-to-one and group chats where the server cannot read what you write.

Groups

The same private chat, with more people in it.

Video calls and AR masks

Talk face to face, with a face you chose.

Friends, closest friends, and the people you would rather not see

Two circles, because not everything is for everyone.

Coins

A small currency inside the app, that you can hand to another person.

Storage nodes — lend space, hold the network up

Turn it on and your device keeps encrypted copies of other people's data, so the network does not depend on one server.

HAL, inside Tex

An assistant in a chat window like any other, that also knows Tex itself.

Your account

An @username is enough. Everything else is optional.

Questions people ask

Is Tex free?

Yes. There is nothing to pay for and no subscription. Coins live inside the app and you get some every day just for showing up.

Do I need a phone number or an email to sign up?

No. An @username and a password are enough. You can add a recovery email later if you want a way back into your account, but nothing forces you to.

Can Tex read my messages?

No. Chats are end-to-end encrypted: the key is generated on your device and never leaves it, so what reaches the server is ciphertext. That also means nobody can recover a chat for you if you lose your device.

What is a Gotex drop?

Something you leave pinned to a real place — a photo, a story, a coupon or a secret. Whoever passes by that spot later can find it and open it. You choose how many people are allowed to claim it, so a coupon can be for the first ten and a secret for one.

Does Tex track where I am?

Only when you ask it to. Radar and Gotex use your location at the moment you use them, and you can turn Radar off at any time. Being visible is a choice you make each time, not a setting you forget about.

What are storage nodes?

An option you turn on to lend space on your own device so the network holds encrypted copies of other people's data, instead of depending on one server. What you hold is ciphertext you cannot read, every object lives on more than one device, and turning it off wipes it from yours. While it is on, your daily coins are doubled.

Is there an app to install?

Tex runs in the browser and installs to your home screen from there — on Android and desktop with a real install button, on iOS with "Add to Home Screen".
