Tex — you are a non-fungible human

Tex vs WhatsApp

Nobody is switching away from WhatsApp — that is not what this is. It is for the conversations you would rather not have tied to your phone number.

Open Tex

What is the same

End-to-end encrypted chats and groups.
Voice messages, photos, video calls, reactions.

What Tex does differently

You sign up with an @username. Nobody gets your phone number, including us.
Voice messages can be sent with an effect on them — chipmunk, deep, robot, radio — baked into the audio.
Things left in real places, a radar of who is close, and a timeline of what you are into.

Where WhatsApp is better

This section is here because a comparison where the author wins everything is not worth reading. These are real, and they are the reasons to stay where you are.

Your family is on WhatsApp. Tex is not going to fix that.
WhatsApp works on every phone in the world, backs up your chats, and has been through a decade of hardening. Tex runs in a browser tab.
